BULO

Found another interesting site, or company, rather.
They do cool stuff for offices, and what's awesome about it, it is accessible for English readers!

Photo

I really don't think anyone is looking at my blog. But whatever, I will continue to post things when I can :P I think friends are too busy right now-- so am I.

BIKE!

CycleStore Box, August 2007

May 2007. Parking for free. Allows 60o bikes to park.

stadskanaal
These are different types of bike racks. Very interesting-- simple yet functional pieces that encourages biking, and at the same time, keeps the place organized. For more info click on the link below (the link is in Dutch, can use online translation sites to translate, or do extra research).

If the ground here is flatter with less hills, for sure more people would bike. But it is there hills and mountains here that makes this place unique and beautiful. I find biking very difficult, the drivers always will cut lanes really close to you, and the air is not exactly that clean. I feel extremely intimidated when I bike. There is a personal feel-good-factor though. I've almost completely abandoned driving.

Bendable Interior Objects

D-Bros Paper Clocks

D-Bros always have the most amazing products from greeting cards to notebooks to wallclocks... but they are not cheap either. This paper clock costs $110 USD on dedece+, but sells 1/2 price at Zozo, a Japanese site.

Wayzgoose

Everytime I pass by this building in downtown, I find it very beautiful. Passed by it again on my way to Wayzgoose this Saturday.

The 11th Anni East Side Vancouver Cultural Crawl was fun.. I finally get to go to RedFlag Design.. >< I still really want to get the duffle bag.. They look even better in real (love the fabric)! I'll have to get a job :P

Waste and Wants

Image and Text: Core77

UK-based designer Peter D'Alessandro has come up with a clever solution to chopping board woes, mainly the grievance caused by unwanted mixing of waste scraps and edible parts to be kept. Two magnetic trays sit at either side of the wooden board--one to collect waste and one to collect chopped pieces. Waste and Want's removable trays contain both what you want and what you don't for easy transport to the plate, pot, or wastebasket.

Sound Waves

Didn't get this at first, had to watch a second time. The guy is actually pushing the inner box.
Seen this approach in greeting cards (loved it), and now it could actually see more potential for it to be for something useful..

Bags of Good Will

"Amidst the vogue of all things eco-friendly, some remarkably forward thinking and imaginative projects have surfaced with not a scrap of hemp or raffia in sight. One of our favourite London stores, twentytwentyone sent out blank Fairtrade, organic certified cotton bags to 40 of the world’s greatest designers, asking them to decorate or deface as they saw fit, the only condition being that each reflected their own design philosophy and had consideration towards responsible design.

The aim of the project is to raise as much money as possible for the Fairtrade Foundation by auctioning off the bags throughout the London Design Festival, from twentytwentyone’s showroom on River Street and given both the calibre of design talent involved and the interesting range of creations, a small fortune should be raised.

It’s clearly a testament to how much designers are striving to incorporate ethical and eco-aware practices into their work, and also in how much esteem twentytwentyone is regarded around the design community that the contributors are of such rank: Naoto Fukasawa, Konstantin Grcic, Giulio Cappellini and the seemingly ubiquitous Ross Lovegrove to name a sprinkling of the people who’ve participated."

Tasteful Personalities

image from: http://camiyama.exblog.jp/

i admire people who can draw. these type of drawings from people who "can't draw" are getting more and more popular. seeing them everywhere. in a way the all look the same.. yet they are all different.. it is the squiggly lines that gives them that human-touch.. thinking i should do some illustrations for my grad drawing..

Another Nerdy Afternoon

Immortal Plastic
This is so awesome. You'll have to listen it yourself. A satire podcast
You are introduced to a plastic bag and you are to follows it around.

I am feeling nerdy..
what happens to the shopping, the sample sales etc..
Today i was so tempted to go to the Gentle Fawn + Spiewak sample sale, but then.. for some reason my gf didn't wanna pick me up (a 5mins drive for her but a 20mins bus ride for me) so i had 2nd thoughts..

So then i went to Chapters for some inspirations, and was really disappointed that they do not have ANY of the Edward Tufte's books in store (by the way, Tufte has the most horrible website).. then I looked at some magazines, including the environment ones. They are promoting eco-fashion etc. for a moment, i felt weird and unsure. What they are saying is basically, you have the choice to buy good products or bad products, so it is okay to buy the good ones to fulfill your shopping desires.

Well then, if you are producing more, how can it be sustainable. It is better, but not necessarily exactly healthy for the environment... came across this Greensumption video and understood.. i was right.. almost greenwashed again.. we need to change our shopping habits.

TIRED

& stressed out.

there are..
1 (a) + 1 (g) + 1(c) + 1(z)+ 1(b) + 1(g)= 5 bdays within 2 weeks..
how can that be? plus it is Halloween!
plus a friend is coming to van from hk nxt week...
i m sorry for missing-out parties.
i'd already used up all my month's quotas for playing.

bumped into that person in the hallway again,
"there you are," she says in her prominent yet soft voice.
We exchanged smiles and walked pass each other.
